Hiring Process

We are continually looking for qualified candidates to join our team. If you're ready to take the next steps in your career, here is the process you'll be expected to complete.


Campus Police Officer Hiring Process

  1. Submit Application

    Go to the WVU Career Portal and find the applicable job posting. Review requirements and submit your online application.

  2. Pass Physical Agility Test (PAT)

    If a candidate meets the initial round of requirements, they will receive a phone call to schedule their PAT. Candidates will participate in a PAT test by completing 28 sit-ups in one minute, 18 push-ups in one minute and a mile and a half run in 14 minutes and 36 seconds.

  3. Complete Panel Interview

    Successful candidates will be contacted to schedule a panel interview where they will answer questions posed by members of the University Police Department.

  4. Pass Background Check and Polygraph Test

    Candidates will undergo a background check and a polygraph test.

  5. Contingent Offer

    Successful candidates will receive a job offer that is contingent upon passing final testing.

  6. Pass Drug Screening, Psychological Test and Medical Exam

    These candidates will undergo a drug screening, psychological test and medical exam to ensure they are fit for duty.

  7. Final Offer

    Successful candidates will receive a final, official offer to join the University Police Department.

Campus Safety Officer Hiring Process

  1. Submit Application

    Go to the WVU Career Portal and find the applicable job posting. Review requirements and submit your online application.

  2. Complete Panel Interview and Meet with Command Staff

    Successful candidates will be contacted to schedule a panel interview where they will answer questions posed by members of the University Police Department. They will also meet with UPD Command Staff.

  3. Contingent Offer

    Successful candidates will receive a job offer that is contingent upon passing final testing.

  4. Pass Background Check and Drug Screening

    Candidates will undergo a drug screening to ensure they are fit for duty. A background check also will be administered by the University.

  5. Final Offer

    Successful candidates will receive a final, official offer to join the University Police Department.

Public Safety Dispatcher Hiring Process

  1. Submit Application

    Go to the WVU Career Portal and find the applicable job posting. Review requirements and submit your online application.

  2. Complete Panel Interview/Typing Skills Test and Meet with Command Staff

    Successful candidates will be contacted to schedule a panel interview where they will answer questions posed by members of the University Police Department and will complete a typing skills test to demonstrate sufficiency. They will also meet with UPD Command Staff.

  3. Contingent Offer

    Successful candidates will receive a job offer that is contingent upon passing final testing.

  4. Pass Background Check, Psychological Test and Drug Screening

    Candidates will undergo a drug screening and psychological exam to ensure they are fit for duty. A background check also will be administered by the University.

  5. Final Offer
