P.R.O.T.E.C.T.

When you are in danger and help is not nearby, do you know how to defend yourself? The University Police Department is committed to providing you with the skills needed to recognize a threat, escape an attack and get to a safe place to call for help. P.R.O.T.E.C.T. is an in-person, immersive training that uses hands-on demonstrations to teach self-defense techniques. This training empowers individuals and gives them confidence in their self-defense skills.

What You Will Learn

In the P.R.O.T.E.C.T. training, University Police officers will teach:

  • how to develop situational awareness
  • skills to aid in escaping potentially dangerous situations
  • striking techniques
  • takedowns
  • escape holds

Training Type and Duration

This course is only available in person and lasts approximately four hours.

Training Eligibility and Number of Participants

This training is available for free at the request of any WVU student or employee group. Morgantown community members of all ages may also request this training.

Due to the hands-on nature of the training, a minimum of 10 participants are needed for this training to take place, but no more than 20 participants are able to attend.
