Whether you often encounter tough conversations or want to gain more confidence during interpersonal conflicts, communication is an important skill. Active listening and meaningful conversations create a safe environment for all participants to feel heard, seen and acknowledged. Our Verbal De-escalation training will teach you how to successfully mitigate tense situations. This in-person training will help enhance your communication skills during conflict and beyond.
What You Will Learn
In the Verbal De-escalation training, University Police officers will discuss:
- how to assess verbal encounters
- building the foundation for situational awareness
- utilizing speech to persuade and redirect situations
- the impact of tone and body language on these encounters
Training Type and Duration
This course is only available in person and lasts approximately one hour but can be customized to meet your team's needs.
Training Eligibility and Number of Participants
This training is available for free at the request of any WVU student or employee group. Verbal De-escalation trainings can be tailored to specific groups who may often handle unpredictable verbal encounters, such as Resident Assistants, Resident Life Specialists, counselors or hospital staff.
A minimum number of participants is not needed to request this type of training. However, your training may not be scheduled until an adequate class size is assembled.
