University Police makes move to Chestnut Ridge Building

Ahead of the start of the new semester, the West Virginia University Police Department has transitioned to a new home at the Chestnut Ridge Building.

Joining other University units in the building formerly known as the Chestnut Ridge Research Building, the new office space will provide the University Police team with upgraded amenities to continue to best serve our campus community.

“We are very excited to be in our new office and believe it will better serve our staff as well as the campus community,” Chief Sherry St. Clair said. “Our new space will provide a more up-to-date setting for our officers to conduct their work and an expanded space for dispatch and training while keeping us close to campus.”

The University Police Department has seen several office spaces in its history, including locations near the physical plant on the Evansdale area of campus, Willey Street, the Coliseum, Everly Street, Chestnut Ridge Road and University Avenue.

The Elmer Prince Drive property — the most recent UPD location — has been sold to WVU Medicine as it expands its space for the WVU Eye Institute.

University Police will continue to operate satellite offices across campus, including those at the Mountainlair, Mountaineer Station, the Health Sciences Center and University Place.

The new office is located at 886 Chestnut Ridge Road.

Students, faculty, staff and local community members can access the office by entering through the main doors and using the intercom on the right. The dispatch team will let visitors into the main lobby where a UPD employee will meet them.
