University Police receives awards in emergency management, storm readiness and traffic safety

The University Police Department has recently been recognized for its excellence in a variety of critical safety areas, including emergency management, storm readiness and traffic safety.

University Police’s Office of Emergency Management was twice recognized for its dedication and expertise. In recognition of his commitment to upholding the highest standards in preparedness, response, recovery and mitigation efforts within our community, Lieutenant Joshua Cook achieved an advanced-level emergency manager certification from the West Virginia Emergency Management Council.

In obtaining this advanced-level certification, Lt. Cook underwent a thorough evaluation process that served as a platform to showcase not only his in-depth knowledge but also his extensive skills, training and vast experience in emergency operations and management.

The Office of Emergency Management also achieved its StormReady designation from the National Weather Service and the United States Department of Commerce – a significant milestone that recognizes the department is prepared for extreme weather challenges.

Lastly, UPD received the 2023 AAA Community Traffic Safety Platinum Award for its efforts in serving and protecting our campus community in high-traffic situations.
