To ensure proper communication during an emergency, West Virginia University will conduct a test of the WVU Safety Notification System at 11 a.m. Tuesday (Sept. 1) on the Morgantown, Beckley, and Keyser campuses.
Students are automatically enrolled in the WVU Safety Notification System through their MIX email but should add their phone number to receive text messages, if it has not already been provided.
If parents are also interested in receiving WVU Safety Notification System messages, students can add parental contact information through their accounts.
Faculty and staff must register for the Safety Notification System. If you are already registered, we encourage you to update your information and ensure it is correct prior to the test.
A WVU Alert is sent through all possible communication channels when there is an imminent threat or impact to the safety of the campus community, including when the University is operating on a delayed schedule or is closed due to emergency weather conditions.
A Campus Warning is sent through email, social media, and any other communication channels deemed necessary when a Clery-reportable crime occurs within the area designated by the Clery Act, and is reported to campus security authorities, including University Police, or local police agencies, and that is considered by the University to represent a serious or continuing threat to students and employees.
Community Notices are posted on social media and any other communication channels deemed necessary for less urgent incidents to enhance safety on campus and provide useful information.
All members of the University community are encouraged to download the LiveSafe app and allow push notifications to receive important safety messages. Other app features include the abilities to anonymously report tips to WVU Police through direct two-way communication and to virtually walk home with friends or family.
Usage of both the WVU Safety Notification System and LiveSafe is highly recommended to allow for redundancies in critical emergency communications.
We also suggest all students and employees on the Morgantown Campus follow @WVUsafety on X, WVU Safety and Wellness on Facebook, and @wvusafetyofficial on Instagram to receive important updates.
