Mission Statement
The Training Unit of the West Virginia University Police Department is committed to preparing campus law enforcement officers for professional service to their communities through in-service, field experience and other integrated training methods.
The Chief believes that training is one of the most important responsibilities within a public safety department today. Training serves four basic functions:
– Sound decisions are based on sound training.
– Effective police services are the results of good training.
– Focus on a common mission and cooperation is fueled through training.
– Training reduces risks within the workplace as well as the court system.
We strive for excellence by providing quality and up-to-date training for our campus professionals and area agencies with pride and commitment.
