Message from the Chief
On behalf of the dedicated members of the University Police Department, welcome to West Virginia University and Morgantown. We are proud to provide the highest quality of services to our Mountaineer community.
The professionalism of this Department has been recognized by the National Accreditation from the International Association of Campus Law Enforcement Administrators (IACLEA). This award was earned for demonstrating a commitment to meet or exceed an extensive set of law enforcement standards. The University Police Department was award accreditation by IACLEA in 2013 and we were only the second department in West Virginia to achieve accreditation and the first campus police department. This accomplishment was a major undertaking and was followed by being ranked #14 of the top 500 best in the 2014 Security Magazine rankings.
The University Police Department strives to maintain and promote a campus environment conducive to academic pursuits. We are focused on community policing and developing partnerships that can work together to solve common problems while improving public safety. Our ultimate goal is to reduce crime, fear and improve the quality of life for everyone who works, studies or visits our university.
The University Police website offers a wide range of information to assist you in making intelligent, informed decisions. Please use it as a resource and, in turn, become partners with us to prevent crime on our campus. We encourage you to sign up for WVU Alert and join us on twitter and Facebook.
Our policy and statistical information is made available to you in compliance with the Jeanne Clery Disclosure of Campus Policy and Campus Crime Statistics Act, formerly the Student Right to Know Act of 1990. We have crime mapping and crime logs to further assist you in being aware and safe. If you have any questions, please contact our office.
